About Us
Hoddesdon Model & Railway Club was founded in 1996 when the Lee Valley Authority made 'Willowdene' bungalow available as a clubhouse at the Dobbs Weir Caravan Park, Hoddesdon..
The following 12 years saw the bungalow, grounds and outbuildings restored, and both indoor and outdoor model railway layouts constructed. Members were able to enjoy their hobbies in pleasant surroundings, by the River Lea.
However, 2008 saw the caravan park closed. But the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority offered the club an alternative site at Broxbourne Meadows, Mill Lane, Broxbourne. The club was fortunate to be awarded an ‘Awards for All’ lottery grant towards the cost of a new clubhouse.
The new clubhouse has been built, and so the fun and hard work starts in earnest, building new indoor and outdoor model railway layouts.
Interests include all gauges of model railways. We have interest in both ‘N’ gauge and ‘OO’ gauge layouts which will be built in the clubhouse, and in the garden we will have ‘O’ gauge and ‘G’ scale track. The club also has a large model boat section.
Several open days are held during the year, culminating in the annual exhibition at the end of August. We also take part in several shows during the course of the year.
The club arranges visits by coach to model railway exhibitions and preserved steam railways during the year. Other favourite events include a Fish and Chip Supper, and of course the annual Christmas Dinner.
Need help with that model? The club boasts members who are experienced model makers and engineers and are sure to be able to help with that modelling problem.
The club is actively seeking new members so if you would like to find out more about the club and its activities, please get in touch and we will be only too pleased to show you round.
There is a small car park adjacent to our site and others in the vicinity. In addition, Broxbourne railway station is just a few minutes walk away.
